Market demand for networking equipment and also headend equipment.
Cisco will never go retail where margins are thin (flimsy) and
competition is thick.

This really isn't that curious, because despite popular
opinion, Cisco is really big in switching. Furthermore,
Cisco is putting a routing module in their Catalyst
switches. And later will add ASICs to speed up the routing
inside of the switch. So imagine that, a router inside every
switch. And significant cash from both.
