I think you are alittle off, I proposed that dell get the bulk in cyrx chips. that's the sub 800 pc chip....not amd.
i indicated they only need amd chips for niche markets.
I also said they couldn't do it til 1998 and that they should be 80% intel and 17% cyrx and 3 % amd chips.
you cannot get cyrx or amd chips this yr. sold out.
the 15 million chips for amd in a 1998 forecast.
they have gone from 370k to 1.2 to 1.8-2mm this qtr.
that's on a scale to hit 12-15 million in 1998....
But, I never said that dell needs amd for the sub 800 pc.(low cost)
that's the cyrx chip. I've tried to correct the thread on chips a bunch of times but it's useless.

Who is using the AMD for NC. the NC is a bummer device that is hyped.
question...what apps would you use NC for..
it's limited. right now a full up deskpro is $1000 and the NC is more than that.

cpq already has the cheap chip..it's the cyrx, not amd..where did you get this info. Cpq made the cheap chip the real thing back in february.
It was the cheap chip that got cpq the commanding lead in market share last qtr and all that profit.
I still expect dell for the first time in a while have higher profit per employee than cpq on my formula becasue cpq purchased microcom and tandem and have yet to really optimize the plants.
those purchases hurt short time, but next yr will end up the gutsy moves that keep cpq on top.
try to ask me questions on cpq thread, thanks.
this post just gives about 5 people on this thread indigestion<ggg>

david, i never said AMD @15mil units and i would not even know.

i hope dell never has to say AMD inside. I think intel will give dell the biggest break as dell has been very loyal to intel.

so intel inside always.
