There's plenty of debate about the staying power of shale gas, but we can't resolve that here.

My point was that the author of the peak oil piece you linked earlier seemed utterly oblivious to recent natural gas developments, which include both domestic shale gas and global LNG. Furthermore, his estimate of the time required to develop new oil fields was way off. As far as I'm concerned, he lacks credibility.

My own view is that peak oil is an extremely serious problem, but the decline shock will be buffered by a combination of energy conservation/efficiency, enhanced oil recovery, and shifting to other energy sources including natural gas.
