He seems to be able to recognize it when he sees it, and has demonstrated, when called for, that he is no stranger to the concept himself.

Everyone would like to be thought of as wise because it implies capacities that are worthy of respect.

Wisdom is usually thought of as having knowledge and insightfulness combined with excellent judgement. A wise person is usually considered to be someone who is able to avoid egotistical thinking and boastful conduct. Not easy as the desire to be seen as wise is egotistical thinking all by itself, which is not exactly as paradoxical as it may seem. Those who genuinely seek wisdom, find it; where as, those who seek the appearance of wisdom, end up looking unwise.

Most people probably have episodes of lucidity and wisdom occurring haphazardly in an otherwise long sting of racing rats. Separating oneself from the mob once in a while to take time to think about things outside the status quo of convention is recommended.
