The repeal of Glass-Steagall resulted in there being no regulations on the derivatives market. That is about as left alone as you can get. And they still aren't regulated to any extent.

Nonsense, Tim. The regulation after the Great Depression broke the boom/bust cycle that got well established during the 1800s. That is history. When we started rolling back said legislation, we started to get similar cycles again. A rational person would realize that government involvement does make some things better.

Now, how was government an important contributor?
