At best, they are of limited usefulness. As time goes on, that utility decreases. So, they might not be totally obsolete, but they sure are breathing funny.

Which explains why we haven't fought a war since WWII.

Oh, wait...

They are blunt instruments. Which means we just can't use them in a lot of situations. With the advent of hyper-velocity, precision guided munitions, which can be used in a lot more situations, the role of strategic nuclear weapons decreases even more.
