Now to answer your question. The original inhabitants of Cuba were offshoot Caribes, Warlike people and the Arawaks, more peace loving. They did not take well to assimilation and were wiped out early on. Little blood remains. The Spanish did bring slaves from Africa. That's where most of the rest of the genomes come from plus some russian.

Many Cubans are black and descendants of slaves. The Cubans Jim knows were the whites with the means to flee the island when Castro overthrew Batista.

Demographics-

white 65.1%, mulatto and mestizo 24.8%, black 10.1% (2002 census)

You've got to tip your hat to Castro - he's managed a Communist country 90 miles off Florida through 11 US presidents. Pretty notable.
