and let's be realistic about the complaints about the effects of global warming. It is almost always about what will happen in coastal areas.

so the issue is that the people who built on land/sea margin that is historically subject to changing conditions, are worried that there are going to be changing conditions.

I live in Los Angeles. Who would take me seriously if I complained about earthquakes?

And yet, when something like Hurricane Katrina comes along and destroys a city that is basically below sea level, we start looking for scapegoats who couldn't possibly be the responsible parties.

Amsterdam is worried about rising sea levels too. But isn't the real issue that we humans built a city in an environmentally sensitive area on the land/sea margin?
