Ted, > You go for the numbers.

I think the employment of illegal immigrants is rather de-centralized. You're never going to find a big corporation like Wal-mart or McDonald's directly hiring illegal immigrants (contrary to what Bentfascist says) because they have too much to lose.

But there are lots and lots of individuals, contractors, and small businesses hiring illegal immigrants. To bust even a sizable portion of them would require an enormous amount of resources. And then the problem just gets driven underground into the shadow economy.

That's why I favor a multi-pronged approach to illegal immigration. Bust the employers. Give workers the legal means to enter this country (i.e. they wait in line). Streamline the federal bureaucracy. Keep the minimum wage low and labor laws friendly enough so that small businesses and contractors don't have to break the law to stay operational. And keep government entitlements to a minimum.

If white people don't like it, tough. They will just have to compete by either doing the jobs Hispanics are doing, or study harder and develop skills that can't easily be imported. There is no free lunch.
