Not anymore, you don't. When I first started at AT&T Bell Labs in 1988 I got 15 vacation days, 4 personal days and 3 non-fixed holidays. You could roll over your vacation days but not the others. They changed that about 5-6 years later so that you could only roll over 5 days, and you HAD to use up your accumulated time, not get money for it. Some people took the month of December off that year.

When I hear public employees complain about losing benefits like these, or gosh, they actually have to contribute (or contribute more) towards their health insurance, I say "Welcome to the real world."
