It's always been the bargain coastal city of S. Cal. That seems to have attracted a large number of Mexicans and Pacific Islanders.

Not Oceanside itself, where the residents primarily live and work in nearby Camp Pendleton (a military base) or Carlsbad (where plenty of corporations have offices).

The real Hispanic community in that area is Escondido, which is more inland from Oceanside.
