as long as we are in command and control mode, we either control behaviors or costs will go up.

I submit that in the end it is quite likely to be both. Running things too closely is costly - and, when run like that, things tend not to run all that well. The best way not to lose control is to... exercise it sparingly. Works even when driving on ice - and with children... -g

That was a most interesting post. I must run out now, would like to get back to it later.

<<Canada has apparently determined, either intentionally or by default, that they're better off with waiting lists than with higher costs or reduced benefits.>>

Canada is what it is.All are covered, over 30 million, so there are waiting times for certain procedures. If unlimited supply of money , man power and infrastructure and no concern about bankrupting the country...maybe waiting less, but probably still waiting time... no need to label it ""intentionally or by default,""

What is it with this arrogance that each individual thinks he should always be first in line in a moments notice for an advanced procedure that is in great demand? Have we become that spoiled?

As i have pointed out many times on this thread, many people in America do not have a skin in the game when it comes to health care, the evidence is overwhelming...from a recent post click on the links to see some of the examples below.

<<The number left uninsured for at least part of the year in the most populous U.S. state climbed from 6.4 million in 2007 to 8.2 million last year, a 25 percent jump that shocked University of California at Los Angeles researchers who have tracked the figures for a decade.>>

Who here, has attended one of these??..Edit ... Waiting times???

<<After learning that many of the patients at the event had not seen a doctor for 20 or 10 years and seeing the tired faces of those people waiting for care by volunteer medical doctors and nurses, Shriver apologized.>>

.....<<It seemed more efficient for one body of really smart people to study the question and make a global decision than for everybody to reinvent the decision-making wheel>>

With health care, some really smart, prosperous, free market countries have studied the health care issues and unanimously concluded that single payer systems are the way to go for their populations...it is not about socialism communism letting go of the free enterprise system... it is just the decent thing to do.
