Frank, my take on the ISP angle is that it's primarily a selling point that helps GTW differentiate its boxes. You pop it open, plug it in, and we'll get you on the web pretty painlessly - so choose Gateway.

That's the only way this thing makes any sense to me.

IMHO, I'm guessing the increased box sales they're anticipating will compensate for the cost of the service. If that works out, fine.

If that's not what they're thinking (i.e. they honestly believe they can branch off into being a major ISP), I think they should think again, as IMHO net access is an extremely overcrowded area and until there's a major shift away from the unlimited use model, it's going to be very hard to get a good return. Granted, they're starting w/ 30-hours for 12.95 and then an hourly rate after that, but I'm just not sure people won't just sign up, realize that there are other alternatives, and bag it after a while.

If it helps sell boxes great. I'm just skeptical of it as sort of a "stand-alone" business.

Good trading,

Tom

frank, their is no dishonor in being wrong - only in not learning something when you are wrong. there is, however, a monetary penalty to pay when make a play and are wrong ;-)

is gtw a computer manufacturer, a computer retailer or an isp?

seems they don't know. divide and get conquered, they say.

time will bare this one out.

ya'll know how i feel or should i repeat it? ;-)

btw, i discuss facts and reach conclusions. my facts are accurate and for somebody to say they aren't w/o one shred of evidence shows how absorbed they are in their paradigm. so much so that reality is turned into fallacy to make the paradigm hold.

my conclusions look forward. since the future isn't here yet, calling them false is a little premature ;-)

i may be wrong, but that s/b an understood facts of making a forward looking prediction. what am i missing here?

Frank, I hope your right, in fact I'm counting on it. However, I'm slowly losing hope as my Sunday paper here in Minneapolis has a beautiful full color pullout from Compaq showing a complete line of P.C.s and accessories. The closest I've seen to that from GTW is a full-page black and white ad on the back page of one of the sections. GTW Marketing is being penny-wise and pound foolish and that is very disturbing to me. Consumers need to get excited to purchase a new PC to replace an older model. Compaq is exciting consumers, I'm not sure GTW is. :(
