"If the above were true there never would have been infanticide, slavery or a host of other evils."

That is silly. Everybody is not rational. And peoples moral positions are scattered amongst millions of families and thousands of sects and gods and myriad "Holy" books and moral dogmas.

"As long as an individual has his own, he isn't personally hurt (except his conscience) when others suffer."

Nonsense. My safety and happiness is inextricably tied to moral vigilance in protecting human rights and freedoms. I understand that not all people are rational. I understand that different groups of people get their morality from often following blind sources of dogma taken on "faith" and that this is the cause of much human conflict and suffering when said moralities cannot be processed through reason (as being based mainly on superstition). But the fact that much of the planet has no rational or reliable basis for moral relationships (other than a secret connection to any of various "kings" of the universe) does not prevent me from rationally separating helpful from hurtful and choosing what is helpful or moral.

"A few days ago, an EU official said people have a right to travel abroad on vacation."

So?? Do they??

"Ha ha. If we could rely on natural compassion etc, there'd never have been slavery, infanticide, etc."

Sheep dip. You cannot rely on people to place reason above superstition. Just because some people can be reasonable doesn't mean most people can. Look around you at the religious wars. This is not rational hatred and rational inhumanity. These are not rational moralities. Don't blame reason for the actions of people who choose to rely on superstition and emotion.

"Just as I thought, you have only myths to fall back on."

Nonsense. You're not thinking. Morality is very easy for truly rational people. The only time a rational person would harm another is if it was in the greater service of his/her rational human values. If someone has to force you to do the right thing it is not your morality. It is merely your obedience. An entirely different matter--but the reason we have a legal system based on secular/rational values rather than on this or that church/superstition.

Because reason is a common denominator that addresses reality and therefore UNITES. But superstition/church is an UNcommon denominator that champions conflicting "CLAIMS" and therefore DIVIDES. And that is what this last battle of the enlightenment is all about. We want the world to unite in reason and peaceful human coexistence. Superstition seeks the opposite. There is no common ground between superstitious people except in your own brainwashed group. You are all doing "god's" work and all the gods are at war...
