I got caught in traffic by an immigration protest/cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday. We had 7000 protesters on the streets in front of the little park where I take my morning walks. The Anti-Arizonas were on one side of the street and very well-behaved, mostly rational counter-protesters, numbering about 25, were on the other. The protesters couldn't decide if it was a party or a protest and many were in full native costumes and there were dancers and singers present. The cops were there on horses, which was cool.

The counter protesters did not seem evil. Their signs made some sense. One said, "America loves Legal Immigrants." I don't believe that's true, but it's a nice sentiment. And one said "We don't hate you. But go home."

Even the cops seemed to be having a good time. The only sour faces I saw was mine because I had to sit through the light changing 3 times before I got to proceed in traffic. I did get a chance to flirt with a female mounted officer. But once she's seen a horse's package, it's hard to impress her. At least I let it be known I wasn't a gelding. <G>
