Look at the chromatic dispersion for the stuff they are laying: <chromatic dispersion at 1550 nm is high at 17 ps/nm-km.>

The dinkum stuff has low chromatic dispersion < G.655 fiber at 1550 nm is 4.5 ps/nm-km.>

If they are using 1550 nanometre, they'd better get with the programme.

Another reason I looked at OF is the discussion about HFT I am having in the Frank Coluccio thread.

High Frequency Trade (HFT) needs lower latency. And getting rid of the SDH/SONET layer makes for faster connections.
