Gore's new place does seem a little elaborate...but he has made a truckload of money since he left public life -- he was an early advisor to the founders and the CEO of Google (and that stock has rocketed up since going public)...Gore also has been on the Apple Computer board for many years now...And Gore is a Senior Partner in Kleiner Perkins Green Technology Venture Capital Fund.

sometimes high profile folks live in a way that we think is going a little overboard (even if we had hundreds of millions at our disposal <G>)...My brother was friends with Derek Jeter years ago back in high school in Michigan...My younger brother went off to the University of Michigan and Jeter turned down a baseball scholarship there as the Yankees made him an offer he couldn't refuse...In the last decade Jeter has made several hundred million in salary and endorsement deals -- he is one of the best MLB players in the game and he has a foundation that does some good things for kids in the inner city...but I recently read that Derek Jeter (who is a bachelor in his 30s) has been building the largest home in the Tampa Bay, FL area...It's over 35,000 square feet on an exclusive island -- but why build something like that when it's much more space than ANYone would ever need...?? It's a strain on our nation's resources. A 5,000 square foot home or condo is quite big and think about the environmental footprint of a 35,000 square foot place...Just because you can afford it doesn't mean you should build it...!!
