I can't believe anyone wanted this to happen much less paid off someone to drill on the sly. The valve companies employ many people, pay taxes etc.. They work together with the drillers. I would hope they are a community with checks and balances.
If we need to drill, which we do, we ought to start with LAND, ie ANWAR and shallow sea. Meanwhile shift more to natural gas as a bridge to alternatives down the road. The deepwater stuff needs more work. Who ever thought the rig would blow up. Maybe they couldn't GET to the switches. Whoever thought this would happen a month after the offshore drilling ban was lifted. Bad luck all around.
