re - geographical diversification. i checked and both NE and RIG achieve about 22% of their revenues in the US. I assume virtually all of it is in the Gulf of Mexico, so based on first order principles, collateral damage to the business would be about the same.

For RIG, BP is their most important customer - 12% of revenues, for NE it is RDS (12% too).
