Okay. You recognize that we can't stop drilling over nite. But what you would like to see is a Manhattan kind of project for energy. What would be the goal or goals of this project?

I am asking these questions because from what I understand technology at this point is not the issue with solar and wind, its the cost of the build out and not being competitive with oil. In addition there may be a secondary problem.......hooking up to the national grid. So what do you want the Manhattan project to accomplish.

If we can spend over a trillion U.S. tax dollars on an elective war over in Iraq why can't we launch a Manhatten project to get our country off oil and coal ?? It won't happen overnight but the leadership must come from the White House. Look how John Kennedy motivated the best and brightest minds to find a way to get our country to the moon. We don't see that kind of national commitment to build a totally new national energy grid do we...?? That's true energy security. Drilling for more oil in our backyard is only a stopgap solution that isn't working out too well right now -- it's clear that we will need to use oil and coal for at least another 20 years...but we could have stronger conservation efforts and we could strictly regulate the way we drill oil offshore and the way we mine coal. It's becoming clear that our current environmental safeguards are not adequate. We don't get another planet and we can't trade this one in.
