For all of the alleged concern about the environment by both parties, it appears from news reports that BP was not required to have a plan in place to address these problems.

I think we spend an enormous amount on Government and we pay public employees very well (According to some studies I have seen as much as 40% to 100% more than comparable private sector employees). Yet despite this and all of their supposed expertise and Congress's repeated promises that the most recent law will insure that this (whatever the problem happens to be) will never happen again, it always does, over and over and over and over, and yet there are still those that believe the solution our problems is to give the government more money and power. I just do not understand the way that mind works.
