I've read some rumors that maybe the valve DIDN'T fail, that maybe it was the cement around the drill casing. So, the oil isn't leaking from the pipe, but around the outside of the pipe.

Yeah, it's all happening a mile under the ocean where no divers can go. It's ALL done by remote control units.

Actually they have submarines down there.

What's obvious is that BP never believed this could happen, and had NO PLAN for the contingency that it did. Neither did the Coast Guard - who probably rightly assumed it fell into BP's realm of responsibility.

The corporate "person" BP has committed a horrible act of criminal negligence. It should go to jail.

Let's face it.....those platforms have gone through hurricane after hurricane for decades and nothing like this has ever happened. That doesn't excuse BP for not being prepared but I think we all got too confortable.

"that maybe it was the cement around the drill casing."

If true, that would be bad. That means it would be leaking until they can drill another well.

Wouldn't matter.

The NOAA drew up a plan for oil spills (regardless of source) back in 1994. It wasn't used.

Oh btw, lets remember Salazar says the administration has their "boot on BP's neck".
