I do my part to help her achieve that goal.

I do have a few gallons around for when I run out and have no electricity to pump more and there is a blizzard raging, and I don't feel like hauling water in buckets, tho.

The Bottled Water Industry and Its Effect on the Environment
There is significant and negative impact from the bottled water industry on the environment. From millions of plastic bottles in landfills to the fuel costs of manufacture and transportation, bottled water is creating more environmental problems every year.

Enlarge ImageThe bottled water industry has become an enormous, multi-billion dollar a year industry. But what are the effects of this on our environment? It is estimated by the World Wide Fund for Nature that approximately 1.5 million tons of plastic are used in the bottled water industry every year. While many of these bottles are recycled by conscientious consumers, most are not, and are ending up in increasingly over-burdened landfills.

Furthermore, there is the environmental cost of manufacturing and then transporting the nearly 100 billion liters of bottled water each year. Stores are filled with bottled water from all over the country and even the world – please consider the cost of fuel required to bring these bottles from Europe or even other parts of North America to your local store. When you consider that bottled water regulations only require the water to be as safe as tap water, the idea of paying for water to be bottled and then flown or shipped thousands of miles begins to appear quite absurd, and a very poor use of our natural resources.

What about tap water? Tap water is far less expensive than bottled water, but it has its own drawbacks. Lead, chlorine, herbicides and pesticides are commonly found in tap water. Sadly, they are all too often found in bottled water as well, since many bottled water brands on the market are simply bottled tap water! In addition, phthalates contained in plastic will, over time, leach into the bottled water, thus adding even more contamination to the water. In other words, bottled water is not guaranteed to be any safer than filtered water to start with, and after phthalate contamination from the plastic, it will in fact be even less safe for you and your family.

Unfortunately, most people consuming bottled water are completely unaware of these unpleasant facts. Certainly the bottled water companies are not going to educate their customers about the hidden negative effects of their products. It is hard to imagine an intelligent consumer continuing to regularly consume bottled water once they have become aware of both the uncertainty of the quality of bottled water and the enormous negative environmental impact of the whole industry.

Home Water Filter Systems. Fortunately, there is an inexpensive and reliable alternative to tap water and bottled water. Home water filter systems are a far better option than bottled water in every way. A quality home water filter system filters out the dangerous contaminants found in tap water, including lead, chlorine, herbicides and pesticides. The home water filter industry has developed a wide variety of filter options, from drinking water filters to attach to your kitchen faucet, to under sink filters to shower filters to whole house water filters.

For pennies per gallon, a quality home water filter system turns your tap water into clean, healthy and safe water. No more bottles to deal with, no more bad taste or smell to your water, and no more concern about the water you and your family are drinking every day. For your health, for your budget and for your peace of mind, a home water filter is the best choice by far.
