What are the benefits of by-passing the DSLAM and installing directly into the CO switch?? I need a little bit of education on this topic.

I don't really understand Pairgain's plans for the Falcon chip. Is it intended only for internal product use or do they plan to sell it to other companies?? If the answer is the latter, how do they hope to achieve the economies of scale of a Motorola, TI or ADI and why would other companies be willing to be dependent on a chip from a competitor?? The whole thing doesn't make sense to me, but I might be missing some info.
