If the pressure changed across the BOP after the ram closed then flow volumes had to have been reduced at least a little. I like that the ram closed. It suggests the potential abrasion issues at the pipe kinks in the riser will no longer result in an uncontrollable blowout if the riser pipe fails. There is now a much stronger restriction down hole at the BOP.

BP has a lot of things going on simultaneously now. They are trying to shut the shears, preparing to install another shutoff valve, preparing boxes to contain the oil, and drilling a relief well. If the weather holds then at least one of these should yield substantial results this week.

Hopefully the shears activate first.

Yup.

The reality of this thing's size will become better known when the oil hits the Florida Keys then slimes Cape Hatteras, the Jersey Shore, etc.

The media and J6P seem more concerned with an ersatz unexploded bomb in Times Square than this disaster.
