The people just don't effin' matter to the miscreants who hold high public office.

Have they EVER? I can't remember too many historical Presidents who weren't in it for the power (and later the money).

And even if the Presidents in office were relatively not corrupted, their political patrons and supporters certainly were. That's just the nature of political power.

The people have to start rallying, demonstrating, protesting, and VOTING!! They have to get involved in their government.

We're seeing more of this in the Tea Party movement, but I prefer the GOOOH movement because it's non-partisan and aimed at sending politicians the message that we're willing to remove ALL INCUMBENTS from office until we get their attention.

That's the REAL problem, IMO.. Incumbency and the desire of these politicians to stay in office at all costs. These people become career congressmen and senators and never want to leave office. And they become entrenched in their arrogance and status, as well as their log-rolling wheeling and dealing.

But let me say this.. Politicians rely upon the expertise of their staffs and many of these folks are careerists as well. They jump from one representative's office to another as incumbents get thrown out and replaced. They hold a great deal of power unto themselves in shaping laws and policies.
