People are, for the most part, completely unaware of the "software running in the background" of their minds.

That's the whole point of the Eastern use of meditation, to "dismantle and rebuild the software"... and of course historically it was very important in certain Catholic traditions as well.

That's one reason why I find the field of embryology (developmental biology) so fascinating.
