Do you have any neighbors that have kids with computers? Some of those kids are pretty sharp with computers.

I wouldn't uninstall Norton, perhaps just stop it temporarily.

Take a look at what is using the memory.... Ctrl Alt Del and in Task Manager look at the Processes tab and the Performance Tab.

If it is thrashing the Performance Tab graph of CPU Usage History that is generated never drops down to the bottom.

On the Processes tab, you can stop (temporarily) a process that is using all the "CPU Time" by right clicking and selecting End Process [you may have to pick the columns "CPU" and "CPU Time" under view if they are not already showing].
