You are seriously disputing that the USSR was officially an atheist state. Says a lot about your devotion to truth.

Its an historical fact the government leadership was atheist. They persecuted believers, closed many churches, taught atheism in schools. It wasn't an organic bottomup movement but one imposed from the top down by an elite of "freethinkers".

Yes, there were believers all along who maintained their faith despite government policy. Which doesn't change the facts of what I said.

What would happen in the US if our government said we were "officially atheist" and the people had to become atheists? If fiat is all it takes, the US would be 100% Baptist Christian or something similar.

One, we have a constitution that forbids that and two, we believe in freedom of conscience (which is reflected in the constitution).
