I understand where you're coming from but it ain't gonna happen.

Even if a billion barrels spill and oil gets into Gulf Stream, flows up the Atlantic coast and somehow up Potomac to lap at the Lincoln Memorial... the drillers are going to say... "See, we told ya there's a lot of oil out there, and we ain't runnin' out!" followed by "Well, damage is done, but we learned how to keep it from happening again, why stop drilling now?"

A year from now the only folks who remember this spill will be the unemployed fishermen and bankrupt tourist hotel owners.

65 years after the horrors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki we are still trying to eliminate nuclear weapons. Why think human behavior will change because of tar on the beach?
