The Republicans certainly do have problems. But I do not think they are what you stated. You indicate that their political moves are by design. I don't think they have the brains to think to that degree. It is their prevalent party culture which is to blame for their malaise and the nation's misfortune of not having a alternative second party.

The Republicans are dominated by "male white older men" mentality. For example you look at who W brought into his team. Two folks from his father's days; Cheney and Rumsfeld. Couldn't he get better, well-educated, younger folks from Ivy League schools? Or is it that these folks do not want to be part of the Republican party after they graduate?

The Republicans are averse to women and people with skin color other than white. McCain and Co. thought that they could benefit by having a woman run on the ticket. In their calculation, women having failed to get one of heir kind on the ticket of the Democratic party, would turnaround and vote for Palin. Their stupidity gets even better in that after having experienced that women are not all that stupid, they then turn to an African-American to head their party. What do they think? The American are that stupid that they voted for an African-American Obama?

Oh, the stupidity of the Republicans and the long wait for a party that would be a viable alternative to the Democratic party.

Democrats have their problems also. But they are nowhere near the stupidity and idiocy of the Republicans.
