Private businesses, while they are out to make money, need to ensure that they cannot do so at the expense of the community at large. The Govt, which the community elects, acts to safeguard the interests via regulations. Having said that, what is need is better regulations. We need only look at the FDA to conclude that a strong regulatory agency can keep the crooks in check while at the same time letting the industry to benefit the community at large. Imagine if we had banned all medical research because deaths caused by a few drug manufacturers whose drugs killed people. Advance,emt of science and technology to benefit humankind trumps all political thoughts from the two extreme ends.
