The IXTOC I spill in 1979 pumped an estimated 3.5 million barrels of crude into the Gulf, yet the Gulf did not become a wasteland devoid of life...get grip, people, petroleum is a natural product and millions of barrels wind up in the oceans naturally. A gusher can be very bad locally, just like a hurricane can be very bad locally. But it doesn't wipe out all life.
