Well if you produce a unit of energy you have to use it right away
or it gets cold. And we all know what happens when you try to use cold energy. No favourable peer review. Cold fusion. Where is it now?

I always wonder what happens to all that electricity when they make it at night when nobody is using it? Where does it end up? Why don't they store it? It must just leak out all over the grid. I think edison was right. DC power Is better. When the electricity comes in and you don't need it you just shunt it to the storage battery. Then use it during the day when its needed. Why should you be charged for what you don't need? After all they don't turn off generators so they must be producing the same amount of power at minimum load? Why not only produce what is demanded? Trouble is deciding the demand. you would have to order power by the watt. Or the fillup. When the aggregate orders came in the generators would be spun faster.

A unit of information is a unit of power too. It is a a grain size or bit of data. That data bit, to read, has a cost to read and to store.
The storage cost of that data bit which is the finest grained useful bit of information is the unit cost of all production. In the old analog days it was costed as heat. James Watt set labour rates in Scotland by equating the efficiency of the steam engine which could be related directly to the average work a horse or man could do or the cost to produce coal to run that engine. Ultimately the energy available to run that engine by the solar power that is inexhaustible
dictates the economic cost to run society. Otherwise the natural entropy of the biossphere must be factored. If all the energy to sustain a minimum life style does not run out of fuel or poison its heat sink then that thermal engine's energy cost sets the base cost to run society. The maintenance cost of this sytem which dictates the life of the biossphere is the interest rate. Even as totally green clotheless animals we doom our environment by the second law of thermodynamics. (you have to pay the heat bill)
