There were more traditional sources as well, such as delta
hedging of short put positions. I think the key
was that the oxygen valve (Fed printing) was shut off in
mid - April. Printing was the only monetary source of the
whole bull move of 2009, with no real investors. The new
money trickled through the financial system to prop desks
on leverage. Once the valve shut off, there are no buyers.
Oxygen might flow again tomorrow.
