Giant oil funnel reaches bottom, settles in over gusher May 07, 2010 07:00 PM That big, boxy funnel has reached the seabed and been placed over the ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico, BP says. The 100-ton box may take up to 12 hours to settle in place, a company spokesman told the Associated Press. If it settles properly, crews will concentrate on hooking up a pipe to pump the gushing oil up to a tanker, a task that could take two days. BP says 85% of the oil might be captured. BP spokesman Bill Salvin cautioned many challenges lie ahead in BP's first-of-its-kind attempt.
