Italy's national debt is only about the size of the GNP. And actually not increasing, see that's a big difference.

The US national debt is now pushing 80% of the GNP, right?

As for the 5 Billion € from Italy, 'so what another 5 on top of our debt doesn't matter when for a good purpose' seems to be the general opinion over there.
