Re: "Then you agree with me, they need to stop spending..." Of COURSE we need to stop endless, decade after decade, deficit spending and borrowing. Something like the Balanced Budget Amendment that Germany just installed into it's Constitution is just what we need to hold all the politician's feet to the fire! Give them a legal mandate that must be met (else the courts would likely be forced to intervene). It takes effect for them in 2012 (so they will have had a couple of years to come into compliance for it --- it isn't any 'Mission impossible' for them), and it mandates that budgets can't fall more then 0.35% out of fiscal balance. (Probably would be useful also to move to a two year budget cycle over here on this side of the pond... Congress can barely get anything done on the one year cycle.)
