IBM announces this morning that they are entering the low cost computing market. Centaur people are old IBM people. Just speculation, but maybe 2 + 2 will equal 4.

The Cyrix MXi looks very impressive but also comes with Cyrix' notriously large die size that has held down their yields and profits. The C6 targets a lower-end Windows PC and portable market. The market is no longer able to be considered homogonous, as the success of the MediaGX at one end and the Pentium II 300 at the other have demonstrated. The MediaGX is in hot demand for sub $1000 PC applications while the Pentium II 300 is in high demand for the workstations and server markets.
