Those two sentences make the situtation unclear

This is in Georgia, folks. I have no doubt that some "born again bible thumper" among the old farts looked upon this as a good chance to get his fellow Seniors "right with Jesus." So they have been leading public prayer before the meal.

I guess its a cultural thing. There are people who can't imagine people pausing for someone to voluntarily say grace before a meal and look on it as some strange voodoo thing that people must be being coerced into.

Sure there must have folks wandering up and down the aisle with rulers rapping hands if someone's eyes weren't closed. They probably dragged them out and dunked 'em in a tank every now and then too. Thank God, our constitution forbids such coerced religious practice.
