Some things are NOT mutually exclusive. There can be a problem in the Church AND a problem with the media. I don't know a single person that claimed the Catholic Church didn't have an internal problem and that the media was causing all these issues. At worst a stray Priest/Cardinal said that many reports were based on rumors, taken out of context, spun negatively etc... and tried to downplay the media reports. But everyone inside and outside the Church knows there was/is a problem. What was claimed was: 1. The media was reporting on the sins of the Catholic Church but ignoring similar sins and cover ups among Rabbis, Clerics, Ministers, other religious orders, and public institutions even though stats suggested that cases occurred with similar frequency in those other groups. 2. The media used terms like pedophilia for all cases. That painted the Church in the worst possible light and protected homosexual interests even though homosexuality was a strong contributing factor to the scandal. 3. Points 1 and 2 are true because much of the political left, media, homosexual community, atheists and others specifically hate the Catholic Church because so much of its teachings on things like birth control, gay marriage, homosexuality in general, abortion, female priests, priests getting married etc.. is aggressive and runs counter to their political agenda. So they see the Church as a political enemy and are specifically attacking it while leaving others alone. If you don't think 1-3 are significant to the overall discussion of pedophilia, child abuse, etc.. and the actual problems within the Church etc..., then IMO you are a moron. It's too obviously important to think otherwise.
