From your link..

re: ""..which could be the biggest environmental catastrophe in American history...""

Which is maybe so, but it also COULD be the greatest human caused environmental catastrophe on our planet.. So is it worth it to continue down this path of unknown consequences of what human-based technology is leading us until we FULLY understand the unintended consequences of our actions?..

People so much believe in technology today, completely placing their faith in that, something that humans built but mostly do not really understand and NOT in their OWN human judgement.. I think, we humankind, dodged a bullet for now with nukes.. The jury is still out as we, imo, still do not know fully the ramifications of that..

Enough of that as I got off trail once again both literally and figuratively..

What I started off to say was that MORE human judgement should have went into the decision to drill that deep.. The old Risk'reward ratio and all that jazz.

In answering another post to me from you linked to the
Der Spiegel, a BOP is a very sophisticated and useful device but it is NOT fail safe.. We have to understand that.. And so if we as humankind, want to move out to the the frontiers of any kind of exploration, WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT THE RAMIFICATIONS of our actions WITHOUT any human judgement, we have to have back to back up to back up and on and on to protect our life line..

In other words, imo, don't trust anything COMPLETELY to technology as human-made tech is running far out of control of inherent human judgement and OUR knowing, innate knowledge..

It shouldn't, but most of us are too lazy, so they let it happen.

And that includes things like drilling far more offshore than we should be doing now, doing war machines we don't know what the long term ramifications are:

And medicine, Not the least, but the last mentioned here.

Let your body and mind talk to you..

Rather than the machines we built but do not understand what they are saying if they are...

But that's another trail..:)
