Vanni, you've got to admit Cowpland was dead on about one thing: We've become amazed, alright! First, he lies to the world about Corel's sales and earnings being "on track" while he sells 25% of his holdings. Then he announces to the world record losses which he KNEW were mounting at the time he sold his stock. Then he spends a ridiculous sum celebrating third rate computer clip art (I'm sorry, folk, but it really is junk -- fit only for duck stamps and neighborhood newsletters) while his wife exposes her derrier (talk about mooning the opposition!!) and other body parts. (Would that Corel's earnings had been as exposed to public scrutiny!) Unable to sell the products he's got, on the brink of squandering what is still the best word processing program (no thanks to Corel) in the world, next he announces Corel is entering a highly competitive business with far stronger, better capitalized competitors who have a proven track record for successful marketing (something Corel may have heard about but certainly hasn't experienced). And now Lotus hands him his head on a plate while the stock sets new lows. Cowpland promised us we'd soon be amazed. He sure kept his word.

Andrew McIntosh wrote in The Ottawa Citizen that Lotus "even flew in journalists from Toronto and Montreal to the event."

You mean Canadian journalists accept money in the form of plane rides from the corporations they are supposed to cover?!

What is going on up there in Canada?! First we get Bean. And now this.

Can this really be true that Canadian journalists do this?! Andrew McIntosh, if you are reading this, please respond.

You know we are always interested in the reliability of our sources, and if Canadian journalists are on the take from corporations, we want to know that.

Happy Investing!

Scott, Thanks for the post. Nothing we already didn't know (Lotus is ahead of Corel?! No! Really?). But interesting reading nevertheless. Especially the part about Canadian business journalists taking payments from corporations. Really sounds like a Third World country up there, what with corporate leaders raping shareholders, and now this.

Happy Investing!

IBM has a long history of suffocating the software companies it acquired. The clash of corporate cultures was always too much.

Its nice to see the heart of the old Lotus still beating. No harm done though. Corel must have had them more worried than we knew.
