You need all your disks, Windows, drivers, programs, etc. Most are shipped on your computer and have a program where you can create these disks in case you need to clean install or install a new hard drive. I don't believe she has them.

A clean install for someone that is not computer savvy is a lot of work. Its a lot of work for someone who "is" computer savvy.

Sounds like she needs a pro to look at the machine, maybe they can fix it without a clean install.

Thats why I push imaging your hard drive. I have only clean installed 2 times in the last 10 years, once cause the system needed it and the other when I went to XP from Windows 98. With imaging your hard drive, you can create an image right after you finish a clean install, and then once a week afterward.

Got to get a back up plan in action for situations like this, and imaging is the best solution cause it backs up your operating system, unlike plain old back up programs.
