Scandal’s ripples hit Florida governor’s race

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune is reporting that the rent boy scandal is hurting one of the Republican candidates for governor. Here are the first three graphs of that story:

TALLAHASSEE - A scandal involving one of the nation's leading anti-gay activists is stirring up Florida's race for governor.

George Rekers was hired, at McCollum's urging, as an expert witness to help the state defend a ban on gay adoption.

On Tuesday, Bill McCollum, the leading GOP candidate for governor, tried to distance himself from charges that three years ago he urged the state to hire George Rekers to defend a ban on gay adoption that was being challenged by a South Florida man. The state wound up paying more than $120,000 to Rekers over a two-year period, more than twice what the state intended to pay.
