5/21/10 Update German Chancellor Angela Merkel says it's "a battle between the politicians and the markets." Or, as one wag put it: "Can Europe print money faster than Goldman Sachs can create naked Credit Default Swaps"? Oy vey! At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was down -1.77% YTD (vs. up 3.42% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was down 1.19% YTD (vs. up 4.11% YTD a week ago). But our amazing Contest median was still in the black, up 2.77% YTD (vs. up 13.00% YTD a week ago). PD53's portfolio (up 29.33% YTD) got through the week better than most and is our new Contest leader. JACKH's portfolio (up 25.72% YTD) fell back to second place and FRED's portfolio (up 22.42% YTD) held on to third place. At Friday's close, 22 of the 32 Contest portfolios in the black with 23 of the 32 topping the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost for the week (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables).
