Schumacher was handed a drive-through penalty, which is converted after the race into a 20-second time penalty, dropping him from sixth to 12th in the results. Schumacher passed Alonso just as the safety car pulled in at the end of Lap 78. The FIA stewards, which included his old sparring partner Damon Hill, have deemed the German breached Article 40.13 of the Sporting Regulations, which states that “if the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking." Mercedes will appeal the stewards' decision and a date for that appeal will be set in due course by the FIA. Schumacher’s demotion moves Toro Rosso’s Sebastien Buemi, who had finished in 11th, into the points in tenth place. ***** This is the kind of inexplicable behavior by Schumacher that has earned Michael certain 'dubious' reputation in spite of his undeniable superb driving and competitor talent. Why on earth would he try to pull this off, when he knows full well what the rule above is ? Oh well... This is a benefit to Sebastian Buemi who now finishes in the points, (his first for the young Swiss), and certainly to Schumacher's team mate Nico Roseberg, who profits in points on this race, and in the standings, directly agaisnt Schumacher himself... **** FORMULA 1 GRAN PRIX DE MONACO 2010 *REVISED* ResultsPos Driver Team Laps Gap 1 Mark Webber RBR-Renault 78 Winner 2 Sebastian Vettel RBR-Renault 78 + 0.4 secs 3 Robert Kubica Renault 78 + 1.6 secs 4 Felipe Massa Ferrari 78 + 2.6 secs 5 Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 78 + 4.3 secs 6 Fernando Alonso Ferrari 78 + 5.7 secs 7 Nico Rosberg Mercedes GP 78 + 6.6 secs 8 Adrian Sutil Force India-Mercedes 78 + 6.9 secs 9 Vitantonio Liuzzi Force India-Mercedes 78 + 7.3 secs 10 Sebastien Buemi STR-Ferrari 78 + 8.1 secs 11 Jaime Alguersari STR-Ferrari 78 + 9.1 secs12 Michael Schumacher Mercedes GP 78 + 26.3 secs 13 Vitaly Petrov Renault 73 + 5 Laps 14 Karun Chandhok HRT-Cosworth 70 + 8 Laps 15 Jarno Trulli Lotus-Cosworth 70 + 8 Laps RET Heikki Kovalainen Lotus-Cosworth 58 +20 Laps RET Bruno Senna HRT Cosworth 58 +20 laps RET Rubens Barrichello Williams Cosworth 30 +48 Laps RET Kamui Kobayashi Sauber-Ferrari 26 +52 Laps Ret Lucas di Grassi Virgin-Cosworth 25 +53 Laps Ret Timo Glock Virgin Cosworth 22 +56 Laps Ret Pedro de la Rosa BMW Sauber-Ferrari 21 +57 Laps Eng Jenson Button McLaren-Mercedes 2 +76 Laps Acc Nico Hulkenberger Williams-Cosworth 2 +76 Laps Fastest Lap: Sebastian Vettel 1:15.192 159.910 MPH (lap 71) ** LATE NEWS SCUMACHER GETS PENALIZED AND IS DROPPED TO 12TH ** 2010 Formula One World Driver Championship Standings After 6 races Mark Weber is the second driver to win two races, and in his case the wins are in a row. Sebastian Vettel quick start in today's race allows him to tie the Championship with his teammate at 78. Alonso's superb drive from dead last into 5th spot keeps him within striking distance of the leaders, 3 points in arrears. Jenson Button's engine demise in lap 2 strands him in 4th place with 70 points. Felipe Massa continues with his winning-less season thus far but consistent 'in the points' finishes gives him 5th with 61 pts., barely ahead of his (suspected) replacement Robert Kubica whose performances with an inferior car continues to impress right behind with 59 tied with McLaren's Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg's consistent top ten finishes keeps him within reasonable distance of the leaders at 54. Team mate former seven times World Champion Schumacher beginning to rise above "the rest", but still a distant 9th spot with 28 points... followed by the two Force India drivers, Sutil and Liuzzi with 18 and 9 points respectively. Rubens Barrichello's accident in Monte Carlo dropped him out of the points in today's race and freezes him in 12th with 7 points... followed by Russian Petrov with 6. Jaime Alguersari and Nico Hulkenberg close the point earners with 3 and 1 respectively. Yes, Red Bull is tied for the lead in the 2010 Championship.
