There's that -- but there is also "fight fire with fire". I don't really see it quite as you do, though -- if the Rs stand up and say they're not going to take it anymore, it may end the cycle, or at least bring some balance to the process. I agree we'd rather just not have to deal with it, but that's not the realty we face.

There is that possibility. However. Suppose the economy turns around somewhat in the next several months -- which it is and always WAS going to do at some point? Will Americans still run the incumbents out on a rail? I don't think so.

And certainly, unless he just TOTALLY bungles it, the economy should be cooking before the '12 election. Do you envision the voters turning him out? They don't understand that the economy does its own thing, that the consequences of massive spending are long-term and affect future generations, not current ones.
