One of the guys in my cohort took over a sub job in January. The school loves him. In late April, the principal told him he was going to try to fill the position with him next year. Last week, he found out the bad news........first, a teacher with more senority applied for the job and it looked like she was going to get it when the original teacher decided she wanted to come back. This is the second time in two years this has happened to the guy in my cohort. In fact, its a common theme. I see positions open up in our district and they are being filled by hard working dedicated professionals who work hard in and around the profession when not on a full time contract ... like subs and volunteers. Teacher hiring goes up and down during different periods but over the years the trend has always been up. Public education the biggest employer in the country. "......half my cohort doesn't have jobs. In your case it appears 'ever had a job' including when the economy was strong. Your cohorts? Yeah well, that speaks for itself. Who do you think you are kidding?
