This haircut is NOTHING compared with what we [taxpayers] are going to take on GM. It is going to take one hell of a slick sales job to get people to buy GM's shares from the government.

Treasury takes $1.6 billion loss on Chrysler loan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Treasury Department said Monday it will lose $1.6 billion on a loan made to Chrysler in early 2009. Taxpayer losses from bailing out Chrysler and General Motors are expected to rise as high as $34 billion, congressional auditors have said....


It really depends on what happens when Chrysler does its IPO in 2011. The gov't has a 10% stake. No one knows yet how much it will get for that stake.
